THE WORKING NOTEBOOK
Project notes.
A living record of what this guide is for, how it is built, and what we’re learning as we go.
Current direction
- Purpose: Explain Indian democracy and civics in clear, practical language.
- First module: How a Bill Becomes Law, with a step-by-step path and explainers for Money Bills, Rajya Sabha disagreement, and joint sittings.
- Next modules: A “Who fixes my problem?” guide and a visual Lok Sabha seat simulator.
- Editorial approach: Start with the question a citizen has; explain the relevant institution, role, and process. Distinguish constitutional rules from state or local variations.
- Application: Next.js, React, and TypeScript; static export deployed as Cloudflare Worker assets; content and decisions kept in Git.
Roadmap
- Establish the site and verify the Cloudflare Workers static-assets build and deployment path.
- Build the Bill-to-Law interactive module and fact-check it against authoritative sources.
- Add the responsibility finder for Union, state, and local services.
- Add the Lok Sabha seat simulator, including coalition and confidence-vote scenarios.
- Expand the glossary: legislature, Parliament, MP, MLA, mayor, councillor, panchayat, and civics.
Build and deploy
Run npm run dev for local development. npm run build exports the static site to out/, and npm run preview serves those assets using Wrangler’s local Worker runtime.
For Cloudflare Workers Builds, use npm run build as the build command and npm run deploy as the deploy command. Wrangler deploy requires Cloudflare authentication.
Static export means server-only Next.js features and runtime API routes are outside the initial setup.
